Job Title:
Mechanic A

Job Summary:
Disassemble, inspect, test, and assemble electric motors.
Work Performed:
- Inspect motors
and motor parts
- Disassemble
motors and motor parts
- Conduct surge
test, megger test, run-test, high potential test or other tests on AC motors
for defects
- Clean motors
and parts as necessary
- Document results
of inspection and tests
- Make drawings
or sketches of part/motor.
- Complete all
required paperwork in an accurate and timely fashion.
- Identify and
document electrical failures in stators and rotors
- Identify and
record bearings
- Record test
results from assembled motors
- Trim balance
VHS and horizontal pumps during test
- Make up external
connections on motors
- Seat brushes
on DC motor repair, set neutral brushes for purposes of testing
- Test field
coils on DC motors
- On DC motors
repair or replace lead wires and internal connections
- Perform tasks
related to eddy current clutch repair and testing
- Mask motors
for varnish dipping
- Perform field
service to observe vibration and performance of motors
- Deliver or
pick up motors as necessary
Education
Required:
- High school
diploma or GED
Training
Required:
- • No specific
training required. On-the-job training is sufficient
Certification/Licensure:
- Valid driver's
license
- Good driving
record
Experience
Required:
- At least two
years mechanical experience
- At least one
year of electrical experience
Knowledge
Required:
- Mechanical
principles
- Electrical
principles for AC and DC apparatus
- Basic mathematics
- using formulas
- Testing procedures
- Familiarity
with shop equipment including, but not limited to, forklift, overhead cranes
and hoists, parts washer, sand blaster, bake oven, varnish tanks, hydraulic
presses and hand tools
Skills

- Ability to
maintain accurate records

draw or diagram part/motor
- Oxy-acetylene
torch welding and silver brazing helpful
- Use of dial
indicators
- Use of hydraulic
presses
- Use of hand
and power tools
